Backtrail Pro

Backtrail Pro turns the radio you already own into an off-grid messenger. It connects over Bluetooth to goTenna Mesh and Meshtastic LoRa radios so you and your group can text, check in, share locations, and call for help where there is no cell service at all. No account and no servers: messages travel radio-to-radio, never through BlackFox Media, and messaging needs no internet. KEEP YOUR GOTENNA MESH ALIVE goTenna Mesh radios still work; only the official app went away. Backtrail Pro talks to them directly: group messages, direct messages, delivery receipts, and optional AES-256 encryption with a shared passphrase so only your group can read what you send. MESSAGE THE MESHTASTIC MESH Connect a Meshtastic radio and Backtrail Pro shows every node it hears — name, hardware, battery, signal, hops, and position — plus the channels on it. Send to any channel or directly to a node, see SNR and RSSI on each message, and read or change the radio's region, modem preset, hop limit, role, and power settings without leaving the app. BUILT FOR THE TRAIL • Check-ins: a one-tap "At camp" or "On my way," with your position attached if you choose. • Location sharing and SOS: send your coordinates to everyone in range. SOS messages stand out on screen and on the map. • Offline radar map: your location, your group, and your breadcrumb trail, with distance and bearing to each person, with no internet needed. An optional OpenStreetMap street map can be turned on in Settings; it is off by default and needs an internet connection. • Breadcrumb trail recording with GPX export. • Contacts and QR codes: add people by scanning their code, share yours, or share a group passphrase or Meshtastic channel as an invite. • Optional goTenna–Meshtastic relay: with both radios connected, turn it on and your phone re-sends group messages from one network to the other. Off by default, and direct messages are never relayed. Relayed messages, including any location in them, go out under the other network's encryption, so use it only on channels your group shares. • Range test: send a numbered ping every 60 seconds and see which ones arrive, with signal strength. • Message history and notifications for incoming messages, all on the device. • Safety controls: block any sender, report a message, and turn on an optional profanity filter. • Works on iPhone and iPad, in light or dark. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Backtrail Pro has no backend, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking. Messages and locations go radio-to-radio to the people you send them to. History, contacts, trail, and settings stay on your device, and you can delete them any time under Settings. The app uses the internet only if you turn on the street map (OpenStreetMap's servers then receive your IP address and the map area you view) or choose to email us a report about a message. OPEN SOURCE Backtrail Pro is GPL-3.0 open-source software. The purchase price covers the convenience of the App Store build; the source is available at no charge from BlackFox Media LLC. WHAT YOU NEED A goTenna Mesh radio or a Meshtastic radio (Heltec, RAK, T-Beam, T-Echo, Station and others) with Bluetooth. Without a radio the app opens to its welcome screen, map, contacts, and settings, but messaging needs hardware. NOT FOR EMERGENCIES SOS reaches only other radios in range. It does not contact 911, search and rescue, or any emergency service, and delivery is never guaranteed. Do not rely on Backtrail Pro for life-safety communications.
