Illustrative example: an invoice app for independent contractors. Your kit is tailored to the app you choose; this is not its generated content.

Feature spec

Goal: Send a clear invoice after finishing a job.

  • Add a client, line items, a due date, and payment instructions.
  • Preview the total before exporting a PDF.
  • Keep an editable draft if export fails.

Screen plan

Invoice editor: Client at the top, editable line items in the middle, total and preview action at the bottom.

States: Empty draft, validation errors beside each field, exporting, and a retry action that preserves the draft.

Differentiate and validate

Hypothesis: Contractors need faster repeat invoices more than more templates.

First experiment: Test duplicating a previous job with five contractors. Watch where they hesitate before expanding the feature set.

The full kit adds a phased build plan, evidence notes, tool prompts, and implementation guidance. It is a plan for your coding agent, not a finished app.

Usage: Mechanics are fair game; never reuse the original name, branding, assets, or verbatim copy.

App Store description

Little Daybook is a journal you talk to. Most dictation gives up about a minute in — right when you stop to think. Little Daybook uses Apple's long-form speech engine, so you can talk for as long as you have something to say, pause as often as you like, and get the whole thing back as text. Everything happens on your phone. No account, no sign-in, no server, no sync. Your journal never leaves the device, because a journal is the last thing anyone should be keeping on your behalf. TALK OR TYPE Tap Talk and speak. Tap it again to stop. Edit whatever you want before saving, or skip the microphone entirely and type. THE DAY IT'S ABOUT Writing at midnight about yesterday afternoon? File it under yesterday. Entries belong to the day they describe, not the moment you happened to write them down. A CALENDAR YOU CAN READ The month view marks every day you wrote, so a year of journaling is something you can see. Tap any day to read it back. MOOD AND TAGS Add a 1-to-5 mood and as many tags as you want, or add neither. Both are optional and both stay out of your way. SEARCH Find any entry by its words. Search runs over everything you've written, instantly, offline. SIZED FOR YOUR EYES Four text sizes, set once and remembered. Every size scales the whole app, not just the body text, so headings still look like headings. ROOM ON AN IPAD Given an iPad's width, the composer sits beside what you have already written, and the calendar sits beside the day you tapped — so you are not scrolling the box you write in off the top of the screen. PRIVATE BY CONSTRUCTION Transcription is on-device. Storage is on-device. There is no network code in this app, so there is nothing to breach, nothing to subpoena, and nothing to leak. The App Store privacy label says Data Not Collected, and it means it literally. WHAT'S NOT HERE YET No sync between devices, no cloud backup, and no export in this first version. Your entries live on this device, so keep a device backup. Export is the next thing being built. Requires iOS 26, which is what makes the long-form dictation possible. Written by Matthew Heusser. Build scope

Plan a focused first version with your coding agent. These are planning assumptions, not a delivery guarantee.

Define the first version

Choose one audience and one core workflow. Use the kit to agree on its screens, data, and acceptance criteria before building.

Set boundaries

Decide which secondary features, integrations, and platform support can wait. Your version does not need to reproduce everything in the original.

Check the hard parts

Validate external services, specialist technology, data access, and ongoing costs for your chosen scope.

Intermediate

From the Build Kit assessment.

A reliable timeline needs an agreed scope and a technical check. Ask your agent to estimate the phases in BUILD_PLAN.md after that review.
