WHY ONE WORD AT A TIME Traditional reading is the eye scanning across lines of text. Each scan ends with a brief eye-movement — a saccade — to find the next word. Saccades take time, and at high reading speeds they're the bottleneck. RSVP removes the scan: the next word lands in the same place the previous one did. You stay still and read. WHY "READ + MEDITATION" This isn't a speed-reading app. Recent research (Rayner 2014–2016, Hester/Werner 2016) shows comprehension begins to drop sharply above ~550 WPM. Readitation's calibration speeds top out where the comprehension band ends. The framing here is contemplative — slow enough to dwell on a Psalm, fast enough to read a chapter in a few minutes.
