Some eye conditions can block areas in your vision. One example is Macular Degeneration. You may not be aware of this because the brain fills in blocked areas. But you can miss things, causing a safety hazard or difficulty in activities such as reading. The Macular Trainer app helps you with two things: - See if this might be an issue for you. - Practice skills to find blocked objects faster. Scanning your visual field can help overcome this problem. Scanning moves a hidden object into areas that you see, so you can quickly find it. For example, a stop sign or an object in your walking path may be in a blocked area. Scanning your gaze a bit can make it visible. Each person's strategy is unique and depends on where blocked areas are located. The app is not meant to provide a diagnosis or recommendations. If you suspect this is happening, you should consult an Eye Care Professional (ECP) for such advice. Note that even if the app does not show an issue, you may have blocked areas, and their size and number can change over time. This app places a cross at a random place in your field of vision. If it is not blocked, you quickly find it. But if the cross is blocked, it often takes you longer to find it. The map provides you a map of your field of vision, highlighting areas where it takes longer to find the cross. If you find such regions, it is recommended that you consult your ECP for further advice. At that point, the app may be use to help you to practice finding objects in blocked areas faster. Many of these eye conditions are progressive, so the size and density of the blocked regions will change over time. But continued practice will help you adapt to these changes.
